Bellingen, which is the heart of the Bellinger Shire is one of the most
beautiful towns on the North Coast of NSW. Our historically rich Heritage
village which nestles on the banks of the Bellinger River typifies all that is
uniquely Australian.
Situated between the mountains and the sea, the diversity of the rain forests and eco treasures of the Dorrigo National Park contrast with the pristine surf beaches of the Coffs Holiday Coast.
Things to See
The village itself offers a variety of activities and things to see. A
leisurely stroll through Bellingen will enable you to soak up our country town
ambience while you discover and admire some of our beautiful and historic
buildings (some over 100 years old) Two must sees are the Hammond &
Wheatley Building and the Federal Hotel. Take the time to visit our Museum and
learn about the early days and the pioneers that founded Bellingen way back in
1860s.
Things to Do
If your tastes are more artistic in mind and soul Bellingen caters for you as
well. Our annual Jazz and Global Music Festivals held in August and October
attract international guests and artists and introduce a real cosmopolitan
atmosphere to the village as we all enjoy a feast of sounds and song and music.
If you prefer your activities a little more up tempo perhaps a guided 4 wheel drive through the magnificent rainforests in the Dorrigo National Park or a picnic lunch and swim in one of the crystal clear water holes of the Promised Land would be more to your liking. Cycling, horse riding and canoeing on the Bellinger River are also on offer. Why not try a guided moonlight canoe trip (very romantic!)
If you really want to raise the bar how about some white water rafting? We can
arrange for you to be collected from Finders Keepers and we can even organize a
picnic hamper for lunch.
Another must not miss are the Bellingen Markets held on the 3rd Saturday of each month. Famous, up and down the north coast of NSW the markets attract a variety of stalls offering fresh produce, arts, crafts, bric a brac, entertainment and much much more.
So if you are just passing through and stop to enjoy a cup of coffee and the view, or if you are really wise and decide to stay awhile we guarantee you will love Bellingen as much as we do and more than likely come back and see us again one day. At least we hope you will!
